LEADING LADIES' FAQ

Temperature:
The average temperature for late August is 75 degrees by noon.
The start of the race is usually at about 44 degrees.

Elevation:
The full marathon begins at 6,000 feet at the Lead Country Club,
and drops gently to 3,400 in Spearfish City Park.

Surface:
Mostly pavement, some gravel, 2 miles concrete bike path.

Running Protocol:
a. RUN FACING TRAFFIC ALWAYS. Cutting the tangent might save
a second; could lose a life.
b. Please, no support folks in cars or on bikes…look for them in
park and at the finish; safety first.

Travel:
Fly into Rapid City, SD…renting a car is best so you can see some
of the Black Hills. It’s 60 miles to Spearfish, SD. There is a shuttle
service from the airport; pricey but possible.

Logistics:
Buses leave from Holiday Inn (host hotel) just outside Spearfish,
Sunday morning at 4:00, (4:15 for half) and at 4:15 (4:30 for half)
from Spearfish City Park (finish line). The trolley will shuttle
finishers to the Holiday Inn every hour beginning at 9:00 AM.

Boston Qualifier:
Yes! Remember the BAA has gone back to less relaxed times so
this is a great opportunity for qualifying; chip timed and fast.

Porta Potti Situation:
Many at the start, more at the half, and intermittently on the
Course; I know, never enough…trees everywhere.

Aid Stations:
About every 2 miles after the first 3.4…“manned” by HOT GUYS!
Water, PowerAde, food….Chocolate!

Time Limit:
Course officially closes at seven hours; don’t worry about it.

Walkers:
Always welcome in all events.
